Is there an advantage to using an incremental encoder versus an absolute encoder? I understand the difference between the two but I am having a hard time understanding why anyone would choose an absolute encoder when an incremental could be engineered into most applications.

Incremental versus Absolute encoders What are your thoughts? Thanks!

It comes down to simplicity... I can look at a digital VOM and get a reading faster than trying to decipher a needle on an analog meter. It's all about speed if you ask me.
