What is Sensorless Vector Control? Is sensorless control somehow superior to other methods, or is it just another option based on application?

It is just a technique used in variable frequency drives to rotate the force vector in the motor without the use of a shaft position sensor (any kind of angular position reporting).

The benefits include an increase in torque at the lowest speed and also the cost savings from the lack of a shaft position sensor.
