Hello,
I am getting a FIELD OVER I alarm on a Parker 590+ drive. I checked the field current with a meter and it seems to be in range so I am concerned that the drive is complaining about the current when it shouldn't be. Is there a troubleshooting guide  I can follow? or does anyone have any 590+ troubleshooting procedure? Thanks!

Sounds like the answer will be found in your calibration. Has the calibration been dome properly for the field current? Is it set according to the motor nameplate?

Parker 590+ Alarms and Faults

I've made a list of the 590+ alarms codes along with the possible reasons and suggestions for clearing the alarms. This is a tedious way of doing things, but hopefully it helps with your problem.

• 3-PHASE FAILED Possible Reasons: Mains voltage incorrect Corrective Actions: Check the mains voltage of the drive (refer to Product Code). This alarm may not operate properly if the voltage is incorrect, i.e. wrong unit or drive OR Possible Reasons: Supply voltage low or missing Corrective Actions: Check auxiliary/control or main supply power OR Possible Reasons:Blown fuse Corrective Actions: Check external branch circuit protection, Check auxiliary/control fuse FT, Check that armature current calibration does not exceed drive rating  OR Possible Reasons: Loose wiring. AC contactor not engaging Corrective Actions: Check all power wiring for tightness OR Possible Reasons: Defective power supply pcb Corrective Actions: Replace power supply pcb
  
  


• 5703 RCV ERROR Possible Reasons: Cable from drive/5703 unit not plugged into drive P3 port Corrective Actions: Check connection from drive/5703 unit to drive P3 port on control door OR Possible Reasons: 5703 unit not receiving communications from master device Corrective Actions: Check output connections and operation of master 5703 unit  OR Possible Reasons:Device not configured correctly Corrective Actions: Check configuration OR Possible Reasons: 5703 peer-to-peer communications module failure Corrective Actions: Replace 5703
  
  


• ACCTS FAILED (Note:   The trip prevents the contactor closing and the current loop activating without armature current feedback - important in the case of external stack drives where the thyristor stack is remote from the control board.) Possible Reasons: AC current transformer plug connection to drive power board missing Corrective Actions: Check armature current transformer plug for correct installation.
  
  


• AUTOTUNE ABORT (The Autotune sequence has been aborted. Coast Stop, Program Stop, Enable or Start/Run commands removed before AUTOTUNE procedure completed
  ) Possible Reasons: Wrong AUTOTUNE sequence followed  Corrective Actions: Repeat AUTOTUNE procedure OR Possible Reasons: AUTOTUNE incomplete. (After 2 minutes the drive will time-out if still in AUTOTUNE mode) Corrective Actions: Repeat AUTOTUNE procedure. If problem persists, contact Eurotherm (Parker SSD) Drives customer service
  
  


• AUTOTUNE ERROR This means there was motor rotation detected during Auto-tune process (speed feedback has exceeded 20% of rated speed), or field current detected during Auto-tune (field current feedback has exceeded 6% of rated field current) (Alarm only operates during the Auto-tune sequence) Possible Reasons: Residual motor flux when field supply is disconnected Corrective Actions: Series fields are not recommended for regenerative drives and the series field winding should normally be left open circuit.  OR  Possible Reasons: Permanent magnet motor Corrective Actions: Lock motor armature and repeat Auto-tuning procedure OR  Possible Reasons: Separately supplied field Corrective Actions: Disable external field supply and repeat Auto-tuning procedure
  
  


• CALIB INHIBIT (Calibration fault) Possible Reasons: Drive incorrectly calibrated  Corrective Actions: Check the calibration settings
  
  


• COMMS FAULT CODE Possible Reasons: Keypad faulty Corrective Actions: Replace Keypad
  
  


• CONFIG INHIBIT (This means the configuration procedure incomplete. CONFIGURE ENABLE is left in an enabled state) Possible Reasons: The drive was requested to start whilst in Configuration mode. Corrective Actions: Do not attempt to start the drive in Configuration mode  OR  Possible Reasons: Encoder or Micro-tach feedback option card incorrectly fitted to control door Corrective Actions: Check board fully inserted in control door OR  Possible Reasons: Fiber optic cable too long or cable distorted (bend radius too small for example) resulting in too weak a signal at Micro-tach receiver (under drive)  Corrective Actions: Reduce the tightness of the bend. The fiber optic wire should not be bent tighter than a 2" (5cm) radius  OR Possible Reasons: Fiber optic cable too short resulting in too strong a signal at Micro-tach receiver (over drive) Corrective Actions: Back the fiber optic cable out of the receive slightly and re-tighten
  
  



• ENCODER FAILED (There is no speed feedback signal) Possible Reasons: Optional Encoder board is not fitted Corrective Actions: The SPEED FBK SELECT parameter is set to ENCODER but board not fitted OR Possible Reasons: Wire-ended encoder wires loose  Corrective Actions: Check cable and connections OR Possible Reasons: Microtach encoder wires loose or damaged Corrective Actions: Check fibre optic cable for damage,  bend radius, operating length - refer to Microtach handbook.
  
  


• EXTERNAL TRIP (This is a customer alarm; this trip operates if input is open or high imepdance, time delay of 15 seconds)Possible Reasons: Device not wired to drive or device open circuited Corrective Actions: Check Cl to C2 connections to drive - connect Cl to C2 if customer device not fitted.
  
  


• FIELD FAIL This alarm occurs when Field current is less than 6% of rated current when in Current Control mode or the field current is less than 50mA when in Voltage Control mode (with default current burden of 15K)  Possible Reasons: Open circuit motor field Corrective Actions: Check connection and measure field resistance OR  Possible Reasons: Faulty operation of field controller Corrective Actions: Where an ac supply feeds the onboard field regulator, check connections FL1 & FL2 for line-to-line voltage (rather than line-to-neutral) - LI into FLl, L2 into FL2.The3-phase supply must be present for mains synchronisation purposes OR  Possible Reasons: No field supply required  Corrective Actions: For loads where no field supply is required, e.g. a permanent magnet motor, set the FIELD ENABLE parameter to disable to suspend this alarm.
  
  


• FIELD OVER I (This alarm appears because the motor field current has exceeded 120% of the calibrated value) Possible Reasons: Regulator failure Corrective Actions: Contact Parker Support OR  Possible Reasons: Badly tuned control loop (alarm only operates with field current control mode selected) Corrective Actions: Retune control loop
  
  


• HEATSINK TRIP This simply means the drive heatsink temperature is too high, It must be allowed to cool in order to re-start the drive.
  
  Possible Reasons: The ambient air temperature is too high Corrective Actions: Check cooling, ambient air temperature must not exceed 40°C (104°F) for full rating OR Possible Reasons: Poor ventilation or spacing between drives Corrective Actions: Improve ventilation, if necessary reposition drives ensuring correct spacing OR  Possible Reasons: Fan failure Corrective Actions: Check fuse on power board, wrong rotation (models above 70A bridge rating)  OR  Possible Reasons: Blocked ventilation slots Corrective Actions: Clear ventilation slots OR  Possible Reasons: Clogged air filters  Corrective Actions: Clean or replace air filters  OR  Possible Reasons: Excessive armature current  Corrective Actions:  Check nominal armature current on motor nameplate against the current calibration for the drive
  
  


• MISSING PULSE (This alarm is caused by a missing pulse from the 6-pulse armature current waveform. It trips when the motor loading exceeds 1.5 times the DISCONTINUOUS parameter value. Ripple from the speed loop from either the setpoint or feedback can cause unstable current.) Possible Reasons: Drive not Autotuned (unstable current loop)  Corrective Actions: Perform the AUTOTUNE procedure
  OR Possible Reasons: SCR gate connection loose Corrective Actions: Check SCR gate connections from the trigger board to the SCR gate leads
  OR Possible Reasons: SCR defective Corrective Actions: Check SCRs with an ohmmeter.
  OR Possible Reasons: SCR firing pcb defective Corrective Actions: Replace the pcb
  OR Possible Reasons: Motor has opened or shorted coil Corrective Actions: Check the motor with an ohmmeter and megger for insulation and continuity
  OR Possible Reasons: Coupling between motor and feedback device slipping Corrective Actions: Stop drive and isolate power - check coupling tightness
  OR Possible Reasons: Feedback device noisy or defective Corrective Actions: Replace tachometer generator if noise is present while observing feedback with an oscilloscope
  OR Possible Reasons: Bottom two LEDs on the 5701 Microtech receiver board are out Corrective Actions: Weak feedback signal intensity; check connections, fiber optic wire integrity, and transmission distances
  OR Possible Reasons: Speed loop gain too high Corrective Actions: Retune drive speed loop
  
  


• OP STATION Possible Reasons: Keypad has been disconnected from drive whilst drive is running in local control. Corrective Actions: Do not remove under these conditions
  
  
  


• OVER I TRIP (this alarm is caused by an armature overcurrent trip. The armature current has exceeded 280% of calibration value
  Possible Reasons: Drive not Autotuned (unstable current loop) Corrective Actions:The drive AUTOTUNE procedure MUST be followed for the motor the drive is to control. Repeat the AUTOTUNE procedure OR Possible Reasons: Drive incorrectly calibrated  Corrective Actions: Check the calibration settings OR Possible Reasons: Manual tuning of the drive leaves current loop unstable (THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED!) Corrective Actions: Current loop response may be manually adjusted only AFTER AUTOTUNING is complete. Check current loop response. OR Possible Reasons: Coupling between motor and feedback device slipping  Corrective Actions: Stop drive and isolate. Check coupling tightness OR Possible Reasons: Motor armature faulty Corrective Actions: Check motor resistance to ground. Check for armature shorts OR Possible Reasons: Loss of main supply during regeneration  Corrective Actions: Check main supply branch circuit protection and SCR fuses (if existing) OR Possible Reasons: Control Door or Power Supply PCB faulty Corrective Actions: Replace defective board

Check field current not exceeding motor nameplate data OR Possible Reasons: Armature open circuit Corrective Actions: Check armature wiring. Possible Reasons: Stall timer set too short for load acceleration Corrective Actions: Increase stall trip delay and/or install trip threshold if STALL TRIP is being used OR Possible Reasons: Field current below motor nameplate rating (if the drive is in field current control mode) Corrective Actions: Confirm motor field current with DC clamp on meter or current meter. • THERMISTOR (This alarm means the motor temperature is too high, the motor thermistor/thermostat input is open or has high impedance. The motor must be allowed to cool in order to re-start the drive. Possible Reasons: Motor thermal protection device not wired to drive or thermistor/thermostat open circuited Corrective Actions: Check TH1 toTH2 connections to drive -connect TH1 to TH2 if motor not fitted with a thermal protection device (thermistor/thermostat) OR Possible Reasons: Blower motor rotating in wrong direction (force ventilated motors) Corrective Actions: Check direction of fan agrees with arrow on motor blower motor assembly or motor manual OR Possible Reasons: Blower filter clogged Corrective Actions: Clean or replace filter OR Possible Reasons: Motor operating at low speed/high current Corrective Actions: TEFC motors do not generate sufficient flow of air to provide sustained full load at low speed. Check gearing and/or reduce mechanical load. Use a higher power motor or provide additional cooling method independent of motor RPM OR Possible Reasons: Drive miscalibrated Corrective Actions: Check motor armature and current calibration matches motor nameplate information OR Possible Reasons: Field miswired Corrective Actions: Check motor field wiring matches motor wiring diagram for field supply
