Title: What is Break Away Torque

Question:  What is Break Away Torque? I believe it is a motor spec but not sure how to define it.

This is just the torque a motor must produce to overcome the static friction of a load in order to start the load moving.

It makes more sense after you've heard the explanation.

I have always been under the impression that breakaway torque is the maximum amount of torque that a motor can safely dispell in the event of failure
