What does DC Bus Failure Alarm mean?

Hello,
What is a "DC Bus Failure Alarm" in layman's terms? Can someone provide a basic explanation or definition of a DC Bus Failure Alarm message and its possible causes. I'm looking for tips on troubleshooting this type of fault from the perspective of a maintenance technician. Thank you!

What Does DC Bus Failure Mean?

Definition of DC Bus Failure: Relating to motion control systems, DC bus failure typically means that the DC bus voltage is either insufficient or has exceeded the drive's maximum rating. Fluctuations of DC bus voltage are sometimes instantaneous and difficult to detect with a standard multi-meter.

What causes DC bus failure alarms?

  • DC bus going too high and out of range can be casued by deceleration too quickly under load. Excessive torque results from directional change or speed change at too high of a rate of speed.

  • DC bus going too low can be caused by power supply problems as well as defective capacitors within the drive or power supply.

There may be other reasons for DC bus failure fault but I think these are the main culprits.
